Ap World History May Madness information

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to May!  It's time for heated rivalries, Cinderella stories, and to crown a champion. It's time to separate the pretenders from the contenders… and THIS ISN’T ABOUT SPORTS! It's time for the 2nd Annual AP World History May Madness – The Quest for a Global Leader. The APWH Commissioner has scoured 10,000 years of history, traversing the entire globe in search of the best rulers of all time. It has come down to this:
51 Leaders, Only 1 Crown
The Tourney at a Glance
You will assume the role of one historical ruler or figure. You must fight, claw, and scratch your way through the brackets, in search of the crown. Each round consists of a leader debate, from which one leader will advance and one will go home. In a three-class showdown, one winner will emerge to seize the crown and claim the title, “Global Leader.”
Individual Responsibilities
  1. Write a biographical sketch of your historic ruler or leader. The biography must include the basic background of the person (Where, when, life events, etc.). More importantly, the biography must emphasize the significance of the person and his or her impact on the course of history.  It must include a bibliography of sources. It should be no longer than 3 pages typed double spaced.
  2. Email your biography to Mr. Whitten (twhittenburlington@gmail.com) by the end of class May 23rd. It will then be placed in a google doc for all to view. (or compose it in Google to start with and share it.)
  3. Create a VoiceThread as the leader promoting yourself.  You must have at least three images/videos as part of the VoiceThread.  This will be described separately, and will be due May 24th.
  4. Assume the role of your ruler in debate competitions, seeking to advance through the brackets. Sell yourself! Become the ruler! In the debate, you should emphasize your own attributes, but don't forget to attack the weaknesses of your opponent!
  5. Score the debates. Each member of the class will serve as an impartial jury member, voting for the winner of the debates that you are not in. Vote for the winner of the debate by balancing the effectiveness of the presentation with the documented merits of the rulers.
  6.  Debates will begin on May 25th and we will proceed through the rounds from there
